Site launched October 5, 2000.
It was a dream of mine to develop a web site covering the many facets of the Dan F. Long band program using a memorable name at a time when the Internet was just beginning to develop in schools. This site has exceeded my original dream and continues to develop.
In August 2000, my wife and I decided to purchase the domain name and immediately began planning the design. I believe this site will be useful in a variety of ways. Perhaps a band parent needs to check the band calendar or want details about a specific activity. Parents and students can listen to a band performance.
The number one goal of this web site is to make information readily available for band members and parents. I selfishly hope the band directors will spend less time (and money) at the copy machine making 100…200…even 300 copies of a single handout. However, we will always copy handouts to pass out in class for any student needing one.
[As of May 2011 handouts will no longer be copied. Only students and parents who do not have internet access will receive printed copies of handouts.]
This project would not be possible without my wife, Dessa, who made the arrangements to buy the domain name, setup the web hosting service, and most of all…create its design through many hours of work. You may have suggestions for us (which we will want to know) but it will be some time before we make any revisions. This project is still coming together.
Make yourself at home, look around and check back often. We hope you like what you see, find it useful, and are proud to be associated with the Dan F. Long Middle School Band.
