Practice outside of band time is important to the success of the student. Each student will keep a record of his or her daily practice time. The minimum amount of daily practice time will vary according to the six weeks. Below is more detailed information about the practice report requirement.

  • A student must practice the minimum time requirement during the day to receive credit for practicing.
  • The number of days the student practices the time requirement will determine the practice grade.
  • Extra credit will be given for practicing beyond the minimum time requirement.

Minimum time requirement:

  • First six weeks = 15 minutes per day.
  • Second six weeks = 20 minutes per day.
  • Third through sixth six weeks = 25 minutes per day.

The minimum time requirement does not have to be done at one time (especially when first learning to play an instrument. Short frequent practice sessions make for a good beginning.)

Students who are unable to practice at home may practice in a practice room at the band hall before or after school. You must actually play your instrument. Talking does not count. Be sure to check-in with a director before you begin so you can receive credit. For security reasons, instruments are not to be left in classrooms or lockers overnight. Shelves will be provided in the band hall during the day.
