Each student has registered as a certain letter of the alphabet. Students will tryout in a room one at a time.

There will be several Phase I rooms (Thursday audition) but only one Phase II & Non-phase room in each section.

The sightreading music for winds will be eight measures and the student will have 30 seconds to study (no practicing) before playing.

Percussion tryouts will follow a similar format. Sightreading will include an eight measure piece for snare and a four measure piece for bells.

All judges are "hidden" behind a curtain and may not know who is performing. The directors will help the students practice the tryout procedure so they are comfortable with it.

A monitor will escort the student into the audition room and announce the student's audition letter. (If the monitor says the wrong letter the student should quietly notify the monitor.) The student may play a warmup note and then play through the audition cuts. Do not wait to be told to play. Proceed through each part until the sightreading. A judge will give directions during the sightreading portion.

Warm-up will be in a cafeteria or gym.

The Region tryout fee is $13 per student. Students will pay $7 of fee and the booster club pays the difference. A check made payable to DFLBC is during the semester. Students must pass the FIRST NINE WEEK REPORT CARD in all subjects in order to be eligible. Since students do not need to be present all day, transportation will be arranged in carpools or left to parent discretion.

Students who make one of the Region Bands will receive a patch following the Region Concert in January.
